Photobiomodulation (Red Light Therapy)
What is Red Light Therapy?
Light therapy involves wearing a helmet that contains light-emitting diodes (LEDs). These LED’s deliver specific wavelengths of light that can be absorbed by the brain. The light helmet we use penetrates into the skull to target mitochondria, which power our cells with energy. It can make the brain less rigid and
Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPMB) uses the energy from light to trigger changes in mitochondria and their energy source, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). tPMB improves blood flow to the brain – allowing for nutrients to arrive in the brain, and for the brain to remove toxins and waste products. Your helmet is programmed to display light at different pulse rates that can access deeper cellular processes in the brain, so that you can achieve relief from the symptoms that plague you.
Who is a Good Candidate for Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy helps people struggling with a variety of symptoms. These include people who struggle with:
Head injury/concussions
Chronic fatigue/viral struggles/low energy, including Long Covid and Epstein Barr
Attention, focus, executive functioning, and cognitive performance
Sleep
Anxiety and PTSD
Depression
Symptoms of autism
How Do We Customize Red Light Therapy to YOUR BRAIN?
We start by doing a QEEG brain map. The brain map will tell us about your brain speed at 19 different sites. It will also tell us how well your brain is communicating within different regions.
Many of the distressing symptoms we experience are related to our brains moving too slow or too fast. A lot of individuals have both fast and slow activity, especially those who have experienced brain injury. Our tPMB helmets allow us to customize the speed of light pulses to very specific areas of your brain to provide you with symptom relief. For example, let’s say you struggle with focus but also anxiety. We can provide you with a program that speeds your frontal lobes up and improves your attention. We can also slow down the parts of your brain that might be keeping you from falling asleep.
tPBM requires regular use of the helmet. We often use tPMB in conjunction with neurofeedback, which also improves blood flow in the brain. For the best possible outcomes, we like to combine both treatments. But we are taking new clients for tPMB, as well. We can also set up your custom individualized protocol for you, and you can purchase your own helmet for at-home use.
